Talk Examines Language, Life of Adoption

Westmont alumna Kelley (Johnson ’91) Nikondeha, co-director of Communities of Hope, a community development enterprise in Burundi, explores the concept of adoption and reflects on the mystery of belonging to God’s big family on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. in Hieronymus Lounge. The Erasmus Society Lecture, “The Language and Life of Being Adopted,” is free and open to the public.

Nikondeha, an adoptive mother and adopted child herself, has written a new book, “Adopted: The Sacrament of Belonging in a Fractured World,” which explores how adoption can be a potent metaphor for building community and repairing divisions.

Nikondeha, who earned a Master of Divinity at Fuller Theological Seminary in 1999, serves as theologian-in-residence for SheLoves Magazine, which takes up questions of faith, love and justice in worldwide perspective.
