Poetry Reading Features Teddy Macker
By
Westmont
Teddy Macker, Santa Barbara writer and poet, reads from his collection “This World” and other recent works in a poetry reading, Thursday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. in Hieronymus Lounge at Kerrwood Hall. The event, part of the Westmont Reading Series, is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Paul Willis, Westmont professor of English, at (805) 565-7174.
“He has a lyrical ear for language and the presence and attention of a real poet,” Willis says. “Also a real range — just when you think you have put him in a box of hip, contemporary writers, he surprises you with a translation or adaptation of an ancient Chinese or Roman poet.”
Macker’s work interacts deeply with Central Coast ecology and has been included in the Antioch Review, New Letters and the New Ohio Review.
Macker teaches creative writing and literature both at Westmont and in the College of Creative Studies at UC Santa Barbara.
