Westmont College Orchestra
The Westmont College Orchestra

The Westmont Fall Orchestra Concert explores themes of dreams and fairy tales on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 13, at 3 p.m.; all at First Presbyterian Church. Tickets, which cost $10 for general admission (students are free), may be purchased at westmont.edu/music or at the door. For more information, please contact the music department at (805) 565-6040 or email music@westmont.edu.

The concert repertoire include Tchaikovsky’s “Sleeping Beauty,” Beethoven’s “Coriolanus Overture,” Sousa’s “Fairest of the Fare,” Sarasate’s “Zigeunerweisen (Gypsy Airs)” and more.

“All the music is beautiful and replete with happy endings, just like the dreams for a Westmont Orchestra that were fulfilled 14 years ago.” says conductor Michael Shasberger, Adams professor of music and worship at Westmont.

This summer the Westmont Orchestra will perform in Vienna at the Musikverein, the famous concert hall of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, as part of the 250th celebration of Beethoven’s birth June 28. The program will feature a performance of Beethoven’s “Coriolan Overture,” the finale of the Violin Concerto with violinist Han Soo Kim, and the opening of Beethoven’s 7th symphony.

To join the orchestra, free tickets to the Vienna performance are available through the Westmont Music Office at music@westmont.edu.
