Alumnus Pitches in for New Golf Complex

Alumnus Stan Anderson ’62 has donated the funds for putting and chipping greens with artificial turf and a small meeting/storage facility for the new men’s and women’s golf teams. Westmont has submitted plans for the Stan Anderson Golf Complex to the Santa Barbara County Planning Department. The practice area will lie west of Deane Field.
“We’re hoping to transform this underutilized area into an attractive addition to the beautiful campus,” says Randy Jones, campus planner.
Plans include a decomposed granite path leading from the road southeast of Reynolds Hall, a 500-square-foot patio and two, 10-foot-wide, covered hitting bays. The artificial putting green, turf trap and pitching areas will be about 8,000 square feet and will allow rainwater to drain to a naturally planted garden.
“This area will give the new golf teams a place to meet and work on their short game—and it will be available to the entire Westmont community,” says Tom Knecht, head golf coach and professor of political science.
Men’s and women’s golf, an NAIA spring sport, begins with the 2019-2020 academic year. Knecht hopes to recruit at least seven men and women for the first teams.
