Dr. Afman graduated from Calvin College, earned a master’s at Central Michigan University, and received a Doctor of Education at Brigham Young University. His certifications include Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and ACSM Health Fitness Instructor. He joined the Westmont faculty in 1999 after teaching at Calvin College and Hope College in Michigan. His areas of expertise include human anatomy, exercise physiology, strength and conditioning, and exercise for older populations. He has co-led six kinesiology Europe Mayterm programs, and he initiated a month-long summer research program in exercise science at the University of Bath in England in 2014 and led another group of kinesiology majors in 2015.
