Biography/Details

With a driving passion for the interdisciplinary underpinnings of the liberal arts, Dr. Aboud has broad academic interests, training, and experiences. She earned her undergraduate degree in Mathematics and German from Wheaton College, after which she completed a Master of Arts in Teaching with emphases in Mathematics, German, and English. Following her experience teaching secondary school in Alaska and working as an adjunct professor at the University of Alaska Anchorage, she completed her PhD in mathematics at Iowa State University. Her research focuses on the development of efficient algorithms for solving large linear systems, pushing computational harmonic analysis into the realm of data science. She has also remained active in the area of mathematics education, studying how different active learning strategies impact student learning and engagement, and developing active learning calculus curriculum. Using these diverse experiences, she hopes to challenge, engage, and inspire her students to become creative and critical thinkers, effective communicators, and resilient problem solvers.

Outside of academia, Dr. Aboud is an avid choral singer and a member of the Santa Barbara Choral Society. She and her husband also enjoy running, yoga, and raising their two huskies, Balder and Freya.
